Happy Valentine's Day Indeed!!

We have had such a wonderful weekend, despite the very cold and snowy weather. And Jason has tomorrow off of work, so that makes today even more relaxing!
Ashtyn’s Valentine’s Day party at school was on Friday afternoon. Alyssa and Jantzen got to attend with me and Ashtyn was very excited to have us all come. She got a space for Alyssa right by her at her table and introduced her to all of her friends! A breakthrough, actually!
We kicked off Valentine’s Day by having our regular pizza and movie night on Friday. We always make our own mini pizzas – a great hit! – and this week we rented “Snow Buddies” about little golden retriever puppies who go on an adventure to Alaska. A good flick! Jason brought home a beautiful bouquet of red roses, pink lilies, and purple irises. They are all blooming today!
Saturday we slept in just because we could, then opened some valentine gifts. The girls each got a “webkinz” and Jantzy got some cars and trucks. Everyone was delighted and we enjoyed our traditional V-Day breakfast of Belgian waffles with strawberries and whipped cream. Yummy!
We went out to the Discovery Science Center in Fort Collins, as our traditional plan of going to the zoo was once again foiled due to cold weather. It was great fun and they had special activities about hearts, plus a live animal exhibit: a duck, a gecko, rats, a tortoise, and a snake. Cool! The CSU students were exhibiting dissected pig hearts. I didn’t think the girls would go for it, but they were both fascinated! Ashtyn donned the rubber gloves twice to go back and do it again. It is a fun museum. We enjoyed n inside picnic there and then headed home for a nap for mommy since she wasn’t feeling well.
I thought of cancelling the babysitter and staying in, but the nap and a shower re-energized me just enough to get ready. Jason was VERY glad to not cancel the babysitter! We went out to dinner with four other couples and had a great time chatting and laughing. Then we went ice skating with one of the couples (whose husband does not dance) , and the other two couples attended the stake V-Day dance. I told them I just couldn’t be dressing up in a dress to go out on such a cold evening. Ice skating was a total blast and we each won prizes too! Only $6 for a couple’s admission and skates and fun games for Valentine’s Day. Our friends said the dance was okay, but they left early and finished at home with better music. We met up at their house later for dessert and more talking. A very fun evening with some great friends! We are very lucky!
It was pretty cold this week and we got a fair amount of snow one day. Funnily enough (we LOVE Colorado!), the next day the sun came out as usual and by afternoon the snow had all melted and it was warm enough to go for a short walk around the block!
Ashtyn’s school is doing “Kids on the Move”, encouraging at least 30 minutes of good activitiy daily. So, she has been making sure to do it and mark it on her little calendar. A few mornings she has been up early with me and done TaeBo (my alternating activity to my elliptical). It is so funny to watch her and we have a good time doing it together and laughing at the people on the video.
Alyssa is loving her dance class and wants to learn to read like Ashtyn. She surprised me this week with all of the sounds she knew in going through a little book together! Watch out! She’ll be catching up in no time!
Jantzen is just a cute little funny guy. He was so thrilled with his new helicopter and four-wheeler and hummer he got on Saturday. He loves reading stories and goes nuts for those little red boxes of Sun Maid raisins.
We hope you all had a great weekend and that you enjoy the holiday tomorrow if you are lucky enough to get it off!
