Another surprise from the week happened on Tuesday night, during Jason's last regular season basketball game in the Windsor rec-league. It was mid-way through the second half and Jason's team was up by about 15 points. Jason was jogging up the court after a couple of foul shot attempts and his right calf muscle just blew out! That's right, Jason tore one of his calf muscles and he's out for the tournament (needless to say, his team was very mad at him about this, but there was nothing he could do about it! Surprise --> life!)
On Thursday, Jason decided to stop by the family doctor's office to have a look at the calf. It was feeling better, but Jason just wanted to check things out. While there, Jason also spilled the beans about having some minor chest pains several days earlier. The pain went away with exercise, but he thought he should mention it anyway. Well, this really peaked the interest of the doctor, and after a round of blood tests, Jason found himself sitting in the emergency room at the Medical Center of the Rockies (a new and very nice hospital). The doctors were concerned that he might have a blood clot or something, so they did a CT Scan of his chest and found that there was nothing there. They still don't know the cause of the chest pain, but it's nothing life-threatening, so that's good! The ER was actually a pretty interesting experience --> free internet and cable TV! Jason sat back, pulled out his laptop to answer emails and watched the Denver Nuggets in the background! It took 3.5 hours, but at least he wasn't bored!
Finally, we were surprised today by a beautiful sunny day in the 60's, after a minor snow storm yesterday. We took advantage of the weather to walk to the park and play together as a family. It was great fun! Church today was also VERY awesome! We discussed the importance of fatherhood and I was touched by a discussion of elephants and rhinos in Africa. There was a certain part of Africa where they were finding many dead rhinos. They thought that poachers had done the damage, but as they dug into the details a little deeper, it turned out that adolescent elephants had been on the rampage and were killing the rhinos. As they researched why the elephants were going crazy, the discovered that they were from a herd of elephants where all of the older male elephants had been killed to control the elephant populations. This left the adolescent elephants with no role models or examples and they went crazy. A simple example from nature on the important of fatherhood and role models in our lives. I really took this message to heart!
Okay, enough rambling! I hope everyone has a good week!

That's too bad about Jason! I'm glad it was nothing serious, except missing the tournament, of course. That's serious business! I can't believe those pictures of Jantzen. He's way too big!
