We have been having such a great time being out of school, even though it has been unusually cool for summer. Last week Jason was in Taiwan and we headed out to the park for a really nice day and we had some friends over to play another morning without having to worry about rushing off for lunch and to get to school. We had such a blast at the zoo towards the end of the week – we stayed almost all day! It was finally sunny but not too hot and the animals were so fun. Jantzen was just amazed at everything – I don’t think he remembered ever going to the zoo. Of course, the highlight for him was the train ride! He could hear the whistle blowing the moment we stepped through the gates and didn’t stop talking about the choo-choo until we had ridden it. The girls were really good and helpful and we just enjoyed being together. We went to the doctor for the new baby and everything is going as it should. The kids were less-than-helpful that day and will be staying home for my next appointment.
We shopped the annual all-town garage sales on Friday and Saturday and found some good deals on a few items we needed for the room changes we’re making for the new baby. We even found some fun stuff! We attended a birthday party and BBQ at the swimming pool on Saturday night as a family. Ashtyn was in the water the whole two hours even though it was chilly AND she did the big waterslide by herself for the first time! Alyssa and Jantzen were out after about 45 minutes but it was still fun.
Sunday we enjoyed another huge hailstorm and luckily saved the flowers this time. I haven’t checked the damage to the veggie garden yet, but on Saturday the seeds for our beans, peas, carrots, and lettuce were sprouting well! This is the first year we’ve done seeds besides our regular tomato, pepper, and squash plants. It will be fun to watch them grow.
We are watching our friend’s dog this week. She is a sweet little shih-tzu and the kids are loving her. Jason is somewhat allergic to her so he is going to try some Claritin-D today and I hope that it helps so we don’t have to take her to someone else. Jason’s half-marathon is on Saturday so he needs to be in his best shape! We will spend Saturday up in Frisco in the mountains where he will run the half-marathon. It is not going to be a warm one this week again, but we have been glad for so much moisture this year. We will visit the indoor pool since the kids are dying to swim…….”but mom, it’s SUMMER now!”
Generally, things are very happy and we’ve had many very good days of a more relaxing flow to our lives. (At least at home…..Jason’s been plenty busy but has also had time to hang out with us some.)
